Guwahati: 7 Transporters Held for Involvement in GST Evasion Case
In a major crackdown on tax evasion, the Assam State GST Intelligence and Enforcement Wing arrested seven transport operators in Guwahati for avoiding Goods and Services Tax (GST). The arrests came after surprise inspections at the Azara and Paltan Bazaar railway yards, where substantial amounts of goods were being unloaded without valid GST documentation, such as e-way bills, invoices, or consignment notes.
The people who were arrested had connections to a range of logistics and supply chain companies, including Baba Logistics, Bharat Conveyer, Fast and Safe Transsolution, Super Transsolution, DM Associates, Right Choice Logistics, and SBGC Logistics. The respective FIRs referenced various sections of the Assam GST Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for offenses like criminal conspiracy, illegal transport of goods and criminal breach of trust.
Officials have listed these individuals as the main people involved in the alleged crimes: Md Neshar of M/s Baba Logistics, Tripurari Pathak and Abhishek Singh of M/s Bharat Conveyer, Mithun Kumar of M/s Fast & Safe Transsolution, Fakrul Islam and Sunil Yadav of Super Transsolution, Bishwajit Borgohain of M/s DM Associates, Rubul Saikia of M/s Right Choice Logistics, and Suresh Swami of SBGC Logistics.
Additionally, the seized goods were relocated to state warehouses for further verification of the contents. The documents provided during preliminary investigations point to a systematic network that involves transporters, vendors at a railway station, and consignee-consignor links designed to contravene GST compliance. Officials believed the arising transactions involved the possibility of stolen goods and unauthorised transactions, which could result in revenue losses for the state.
Officials have confirmed that further investigations are underway and more arrests may follow. The GST department has warned all transporters and logistics operators to ensure strict compliance, stating that intensified inspections will continue across key transit points in Assam.
