ITR Reporting: Which IFSC Code to Use for Your Post Office Savings Account?
Generally, most taxpayers get confused while selecting the IFSC code when they see their Post Office Savings Account information in the AIS (Annual Information Statement) on the Income Tax portal. This article is to help these taxpayers solve this confusion.
This confusion usually arises because there are two different types of post office savings accounts, and each one uses a different IFSC code.
CBS Post Office Savings Account (with passbook):
- If you possess a regular post office savings account that was opened by visiting the post office and you have a physical passbook, your account is most likely under the Core Banking System (CBS) of India Post. These types of accounts are available in most post offices in India.
- For CBS Post Office Savings Accounts, use the IPOS0000DOP IFSC code. This IFSC is common for all post offices in India, so no matter which post office your account is in, this code is used the same.
- Customers are also provided with this IFS Code printed on their passbooks on the first page.
IPPB (India Post Payments Bank) Digital Account:
- If you possess a digital savings account with IPPB, which is a separate bank under India Post, then it is a different type of account.
- These accounts are generally opened using the Aadhaar Card number and Mobile Number. Can also be opened even without visiting the post office.
- For IPPB Digital Accounts, use the IPOS0000DOP IFSC code.
